岡由雨子建築ディザインは、建築を「完成した瞬間に終わるもの」ではなく、時間を内包し、使われ、変化し、
涵養されていく存在として捉えています。
建築設計と3Dプリントを横断しながら、設計・制作・更新を連続したプロセスとして統合することで、
変化し続ける建築のあり方を探求しています。
時間を内包する建築
岡由雨子建築ディザインは、建築を完成した時点で完結するものとは考えていません。
建築は、使われることによって意味を獲得し、人の行為や社会の制度、価値観と結びつきながら、意味を更新し続ける、ひとつのプロセスであると考えています。
現代社会における建築と陳腐化
現代社会において多くの建築は、構造的には十分に成立していながら、プログラムやコンテクストの陳腐化によって短い寿命を迎えています。
特に商業建築や展示建築では、社会の変化に応答できなくなった瞬間に、更新や解体が選択されることも少なくありません。
私たちはこの状況を前提とし、変化すること、更新されることを内包した建築のあり方を問い続けています。
建築的手法としての3Dプリント
こうした思考の延長線上に、3Dプリントという技術があります。
私たちにとって3Dプリントは、単なる新しい造形手法ではなく、設計と制作、完成と更新の関係を組み替えるための建築的な方法論です。
デジタルデータから直接形を生み出すこの技術は、建築を固定された完成物から、可変的で再編集可能な存在へとひらく可能性を持っています。
ロボットアームによる造形と建築スケール
私たちは、ロボットアームを用いた大型3Dプリントを所有して、造形やパネル、内装、什器の制作し、建築スケールの空間において、構法・素材・テクスチャの関係を横断的に再考する試みを行なっています。
それらは装飾や実験にとどまるものではなく、建築の一部として機能し、空間体験そのものを更新する要素として設計されています。
素材の循環と建築の寿命
私たちは、建築に用いる素材を「使い切るもの」とは捉えていません。
3Dプリント素材を粉砕し、再び造形へと戻す再資源化・再造形のプロセスを通じて、建築部材が一度きりの存在ではなく、時間を越えて循環しうる存在となる可能性を探っています。
この循環の思想は、環境配慮にとどまらず、建築の寿命や価値をどのように捉えるかという、より根源的な問いへとつながっています。
CIRCULUSという建築的実践
こうした建築的思考と技術的実践は、特定のプロダクトや表現に限定されるものではありません。
内装、展示、空間造形、構法研究など、さまざまなスケールと領域を横断しながら、建築を更新し続けるための実践として展開されています。
私たちは、このような建築的思考と技術的実践の総体を 「CIRCULUS」 と呼んでいます。
個別のプロジェクトや名称は、その過程において生まれた一つのかたちに過ぎません。
更新され続ける建築へ
岡由雨子建築ディザインが目指しているのは、強い形や一時的な新しさではありません。
時間の中で意味を変えながら使われ続け、必要に応じて組み替えられ、再解釈される建築。
そして、変化する社会や価値観に対して、柔軟に応答し続ける空間のあり方です。
建築は完成した瞬間に完結するものではなく、使われ、変わり、再びつくられる過程そのものに本質があります。
私たちは、設計と制作、思想と技術を往復しながら、そのプロセスを建築として実装していきます。
Oka Yuko Architecture Design is a Japan-based architectural design studio working at the intersection of architecture and 3D printing.
The studio explores robotic fabrication as an architectural methodology, integrating design, production, and renewal into a continuous process.
Through architectural elements, interiors, and material circulation, the practice seeks forms of architecture that can evolve, adapt, and be re-created over time.
Architecture as a Process Over Time
Oka Yuko Architecture Design views architecture not as something that is completed at the moment of construction, but as an entity that contains time—one that is used, transformed, and cultivated through continued occupation.
Architecture is not only a physical structure, but a process that continuously renews its meaning through its relationship with human activity, social systems, and shifting values.
Architecture and Obsolescence in Contemporary Society
In contemporary society, many buildings remain structurally sound while their programs and contexts become obsolete, resulting in unexpectedly short lifespans.
This condition is particularly evident in commercial and exhibition architecture, where buildings are often renovated or dismantled once they can no longer respond to social change.
Rather than resisting this reality, we take it as a given and continue to question architectural forms that can inherently accommodate change and renewal.
3D Printing as an Architectural Methodology
From this line of thinking emerges our engagement with 3D printing.
For us, 3D printing is not simply a novel method of form-making, but an architectural methodology that reconfigures the relationship between design and fabrication, completion and transformation.
By directly materializing digital data, this technology opens architecture to becoming a mutable and re-editable entity rather than a fixed and final object.
Robotic Fabrication and Architectural Scale
Our work with large-scale robotic 3D printing—through architectural elements such as panels, interiors, spatial structures, and fixtures—serves as an exploration of construction systems, materials, and textures at an architectural scale.
These elements are not conceived as decoration or experimentation alone, but are designed to function as integral parts of architecture that actively reshape spatial experience.
Material Circulation and Architectural Lifespan
We also do not regard architectural materials as something to be consumed and discarded.
Through processes of crushing, reprocessing, and reprinting, we explore the potential for 3D-printed components to exist not as one-time objects, but as elements that circulate through time.
This concept of material circulation extends beyond environmental consideration, leading to more fundamental questions about how architectural lifespan and value might be redefined.
CIRCULUS: An Integrated Architectural Practice
Such architectural thinking and technical practice are not confined to specific products or expressions.
They unfold across multiple scales and domains—including interiors, exhibitions, spatial installations, and constructional research—as an ongoing practice aimed at continually updating architecture itself.
We refer to this integrated body of architectural thinking and technical practice as “CIRCULUS.”
Individual projects and names are merely forms that emerge along the way.
Toward Architecture that Continues to Evolve
What Oka Yuko Architecture Design seeks is not strong form or momentary novelty.
Rather, we aim for architecture that continues to be used while its meaning evolves over time—architecture that can be reconfigured, reinterpreted, and renewed as circumstances change.
We pursue spatial practices that remain responsive to shifting social conditions and values.
Architecture does not conclude at the moment of completion.
Its essence lies in the process of being used, transformed, and continually re-created.
Through an ongoing dialogue between design and fabrication, thought and technology, we seek to implement this process as architecture.
